Arriving in Baltimore

Mendes Cohen was a Baltimorean from age 12 until his death at 84.

During his time here, Baltimore grew from fewer than 40,000 people to nearly 330,000.

Mendes arrived with his family from Richmond in 1807. By 1810, Baltimore had already become the third most populous U.S. city, after New York and Philadelphia.
